Direct Invoice Program

Compassionate Home Care, Centered Around You

At A Helpful Hand, we understand how important it is to feel safe, supported, and cared for at home. Whether you or a loved one needs help with daily routines, dementia care, or just a friendly companion, we’re here to provide quality home care tailored to your needs.

Our services go beyond the basics — we can assist with light housekeeping, meal prep, exercise support, and even provide respite care so family caregivers can recharge. Our mission is simple: to help Albertans maintain independence, comfort, and dignity while aging in place.

The best part? You may qualify to receive home care services from A Helpful Hand at no cost through the Direct Invoice Program.

Home Care That Puts You First

Home care should never be “just good enough.” Thanks to the Direct Invoice Program, you have the power to choose a trusted provider like A Helpful Hand — and access quality care at no cost to you.

Through Alberta Health Services (AHS), the Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI) Program gives families control and flexibility. You decide who delivers your care and what services best support your lifestyle.

At A Helpful Hand, we believe every Albertan deserves comfort, dignity, and independence at home. It’s our privilege to walk alongside families with personalized care designed around what matters most — you.

Who Can Receive Care?

At A Helpful Hand, our goal is to help Albertans stay independent, comfortable, and supported at home. From dementia care to companionship and daily living support, we’re here to make sure you or your loved one can age in place with dignity.

To qualify for home care services through the Direct Invoice Program, you must:
✔️ Live in Alberta and have a valid Alberta Health Care card
✔️ Reside in your own home (not in assisted living or long-term care)
✔️ Meet the eligibility requirements as determined by an AHS case manager

Because we believe everyone deserves the chance to live their best life, it’s our privilege to walk alongside you with personalized care that truly fits your needs.

How It Works

With the Direct Invoice Program, you stay in control of who provides your care — without the stress of handling invoices or payments. Once approved, A Helpful Hand bills Alberta Health Services (AHS) directly for your approved hours of care, at the AHS hourly rate.

Unlike the Self-Managed Care program, you don’t have to worry about managing paperwork or audits. The only time you’ll see a bill from us is if you decide to add extra hours of care beyond what AHS has approved. It’s that simple — more time for you, less stress with the paperwork.

Getting Started Is Simple!

Starting with the Direct Invoice Program is straightforward — and we’re here to guide you every step of the way. While you can begin the process yourself, we recommend reaching out to A Helpful Hand first so we can answer your questions and make things easier.

Step 1:
An AHS Home Care case manager will complete an in-home assessment to confirm eligibility.

Step 2:
You’ll be informed of the number of hours you qualify for — up to a maximum of 40 hours per week.

Step 3:
A Helpful Hand then visits your home to learn about your unique care needs and carefully match you with a consistent, compassionate caregiver.

Your care, made simple.
